Miss Wisconsin Congeniality’s
Insider’s Guide To
Madison Volume Four
"Ticket To Ride"
(Editor’s note:
This month Megan shares not only her travel tips, but photos from
her childhood as well. Hopefully her really cute pictures and the
interesting places to visit will entice you to travel to Supreme
Session in July!)
The Capital
Session tours have come out and I thought I would tell you a thing
or two about some of the places they are taking you. |
|
One
option is the Betty Lou Cruise Line. You can take the boat and see
the magnificent Madison shore lines. You can see all the beautiful
structures, watch the people, eat a delicious meal and have a grand
time relaxing on our lakes. A cool fact about our city is that by
law the Capitol is the tallest building downtown so that when you
look at the shoreline, you will always see it. |
|
You
can also go to Lambeau Field. Lambeau Field, otherwise known as the
legendary “Frozen Tundra”, is where the NFL’s Green Bay Packers play
football. Within the stadium complex is the
Packer
Hall of Fame. With the recent retirement of the iconic quarterback
Brett Favre, the Hall of Fame is a must see. If you are a football
fan or if you are like me and just watch because otherwise you have
no idea what people are talking about, a trip to Lambeau Field is
certain to give you chills as you walk amidst the glory and legends
of Titletown.

The
Circus World Museum is a museum all about the circus and the
Ringling Brothers. It is in Baraboo
and has many museums about everything and anything to do with the
circus. You can watch a circus parade, learn how to put on clown
make-up, watch the many side acts or even eat a hot dog on a stick.
Some days you can even see them bring the elephants to the river to
take a bath.
 |
|
The
Upper Dells Boat trip in the Wisconsin Dells is also very fun and
interesting. On the tour you travel down the Wisconsin River and
see what the glaciers left behind here in Wisconsin. You also have
two fun stops. The first was
my
favorite as a kid. It is called Witches Gulch and has some of the
coolest rock formations in my opinion. Plus if it is a hot day,
this part of the tour can cool you off because you are surrounded by
rocks. The second stop is at Stand Rock. Here you can see a dog
jump from one rock to another, which are five feet apart and are way
up in the air. You should bring your camera on this trip because
you can see of the most beautiful rock formations on the Wisconsin
River and some amazing sights. |
|
The
Ten Chimneys is a historic landmark in the theatrical communities
outside of Milwaukee. You can walk throughout almost the entire
house and see all the beautiful furniture and art. Milwaukee is an
awesome city; there is something for everyone there. You can take
tours of several breweries, see the Milwaukee Brewers play major
league baseball, see a wide range of theatric performances, and of
course, visit the historic downtown.

Noah’s
Ark in the Wisconsin Dells is my favorite water park. I love to go
there. There are water rides for everyone and even waterless rides.
A ride you must go on if you love adrenaline rushes is The Point Of
No Return. You pretty
much
drop down a 10 story slide in about 5 seconds. It is AWESOME! If
you like to lay low there are rides like
Dark
Voyage, Black Thunder, Congo Bongo and Flash Flood just to name some
of the 46 water slides. There are also two lazy rivers and two wave
pools. This is a really fun water park and is the biggest in
American and you should consider going here.

|

The EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh
is for all you air lovers. There you can see thousands of planes
from all over in one place. You can see old and new planes and watch
the planes do tricks. It is considered one of Wisconsin’s hidden
treasures and is truly mind blowing. |
|
The
House on the Rock is a very unique house to say the least. This is a
place that you can not find anywhere else. It is part house, part
museum. Every time I go I find something new or something I didn’t
see before. The best part is you can walk out of the house over a
rock gully and look down -- truly amazing. |
|
The
Taliesin Preservation is really cool and if you like different
architecture you must go and see it. It is one of many Frank Lloyd
Wright buildings in the state. |
|

Cave of the Mounds is really quite
fascinating. You can go and explore this amazing site underground.
However it is quite cold when you get in the cave so remember a
sweatshirt!
|
|
 Take
the “trollway” to Blue Mounds and visit Little Norway. Its official
name is Nissedahle or Valley of the Elves, this outdoor museum
highlights Norse architecture and antiques. You can find elves,
grass on the roofs and many other Norwegian things.
|
|
 The
Mount Horeb Mustard Museum has everything and anything you want to
know and see about mustard. It is the world’s largest collection.
We recommend the souvenirs emblazoned with the “Poupon U” logo.
|
|
The
Olbrich Gardens in Madison are not far from my house and I enjoy
going there in the warmer times of year, when there is no snow. You
can wander around the gardens see all kinds of plants and water
structures. There are
buildings
from all over. There is a building from
Thailand and it’s breathtaking. My favorite spot is by the
little river under the big oak tree. There is also an indoor garden
where in the summer you can find a huge population of butterflies.
There are tons of birds in the indoor garden as well. I love the
Olbrich Gardens.

Downtown
Madison is a must see. You will run into thousands of people all
with a different story. The best place is State Street. This is a
street where you will run into people from all walks of life. There
are restaurants and cafes and
shops.
On State Street you will find all kinds of one-of-a-kind shops,
since most of the shops on State Street are not chain stores and can
only be found here in downtown Madison. And if you get tired you can
always sit on a bench or at a table and people watch. Also there is
no driving on the street other than buses and police so you can walk
right down the middle of the street. Also downtown
you
can find the UW-Madison campus. You can see the buildings, go to the
Memorial Union and see the chairs and get Babcock Ice Cream. I love
downtown a lot and it is a huge part of every Madisonian’s world. |
|
 These
are just my opinions on some of the amazing place you can see around
the beautiful state of Wisconsin. I promise to talk more about other
things to do around the city later, but I hope you pick some tours
to do while you are in the great state of Wisconsin! |
|
Hope to meet
you at Supreme Session!
