Miss Wisconsin Congeniality’s Insider’s Guide To Madison Volume Two

I don’t know about you, but I love food! In Madison you can get any type of food your heart desires. From hamburgers to gyros to sushi to no meat to all natural pasta, you can more likely than not find what you want.

One place that you can find a lot of restaurants is downtown on State Street. State Street is eight blocks which connect the University of Wisconsin campus with the State Capitol. It is absolutely the epicenter of everything that is exciting and unique about Madison. There are Afghan, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mediterranean and Vietnamese restaurants to name just a few. There are over 60 restaurants and over 20 sidewalk cafes to choose from. I have tons of restaurants I like on State Street. One is Nick’s Bar and Grill. Another restaurant I like on State Street is State Street Brats. Now in Wisconsin a B-R-A-T is not an annoying child, but a sausage that you eat much like a hot dog. You HAVE to try a brat while you are in Wisconsin. And it tastes even better when you enjoy it while soaking up some sun on their outdoor patio.

Both the top of State Street near the Capitol and the bottom of State Street near the campus feature food carts. Like a mini food court, your delicious choices are numerous. After choosing your portable feast, pull up a seat on the lawn or a bench and spice up your meal with friendly conversation and people watching.

One restaurant you should try is Culver’s. I know that there are Culver’s all over the USA, but Culver’s started in Wisconsin and they are EVERYWHERE! There are four in Madison, one in Middleton and five in other cities around Madison. Try a Butter Burger. Or if you are pizza lover much like myself, you will be happy to know that there are great pizza places all over the city. I like Glass Nickel Pizza. Granted that it is a normal old pizza place, but just thinking about the great pizza makes my mouth water. Like Feta-Licious, the Ranch and Couch Potato. Another pizza place that makes my mouth water is Ian’s Pizza by the slice. Do you like lasagna, S’mores, or Mac and Cheese? Have you ever had those on Pizza? I have! At Ian’s you quite literally can get anything on Pizza and they make it taste good.

There are tons of restaurants near the Supreme Session hotels in Middleton. Right across the street is Greenway Station, a relatively new open-air mall with a variety of unique shops and restaurants. I suggest Macaroni Grill, PF Changs, the Melting Pot and Jimmy Buffet’s Cheeseburger in Paradise. One good restaurant is Quaker Steak and Lube. This is not a gas station but a motor sports-themed restaurant. This is a great place to go if there is any form of sports game on television and it’s a great family restaurant. Don’t be afraid to try new restaurants unique to the Madison and Middleton area.

I hope you all have safe and happy New Year!
