Colorado

Monday morning, Mrs. Olson and I met several members of the Colorado jurisdiction in Denver for a tour of a few of Colorado’s highlights.  Although we were only able to spend a day with the girls, we were able to pack quite a bit in!

We began our day with a drive from Denver to Colorado Springs, where we toured the Air Force Academy.  There was a brief, educational presentation about the campus before we were free to roam the Academy at our leisure.  We were able to see the Chapel, which actually included chapels for followers of Judaism, Buddhism, and Christianity, before heading to our next location.  The Garden of the Gods is a Colorado state park filled with ancient red rock formations and hiking trails.  We were able to stretch our legs a bit during a brief walk among some of the formations, and snap a few photos of the girls posing near different rocks.

For lunch, the group ate traditional Greek food at Jake and Telly’s.  The food was wonderful, and a new experience for some of the girls.  After we had our share of gyros, pita bread, and French onion soup, we drove down to the United States Olympic Training Center.  We watched a short video on the Olympic and Paralympic training centers, then took a guided tour of the facility.  The Colorado Springs facility is one of the three training centers where athletes are able to train year round, or on a short term basis.  Later in the evening, there was a pot-luck dinner and talent show at Bethel #37, Westminster.  Girls’ talents ranged from a stunning display of acting and musical performances to the HIKE Choir to comical skits.  All of the girls did a fabulous job, and we are so thrilled that we were able to spend some time, if only a little, getting to know the daughters of Colorado!

Wyoming

Mrs. Olson and I kicked off our visit to Wyoming with a pizza party at Mrs. Winders on Friday night. A few of us gathered to get to know each other better over pizza, salad, and fresh strawberries, in preparation for our time together this weekend.

Saturday morning to mid-afternoon was pretty open, which enabled us to sleep in then head to the local mall to hang out with a few of the other Wyoming girls. Among the girls at the mall were the Miss Wyoming Job’s Daughter Sarrong, and the 2007-2008 Supreme Bethel Honored Queen Jette. It was wonderful to see Jette again and catch up with her about all of the happenings in her life since her term ended. After we were all shopped out, it was back to the hotel to change for the banquet later that evening in honor of the Grand family’s homecoming and the Supreme visit.

Everyone reconvened at the Shrine center in Casper for a lasagna dinner, fashion show, and some comedic entertainment. Mrs. Robblee, kicked off the evening by dressing up in a very… eccentric outfit and then proceeded to poke fun at the Supreme officers who were present.  Following Mrs. Robblee’s act, the girls split into teams to create an eco-friendly outfit out of duct tape, garbage bags, cardboard, and newspaper.  Their creativity shined and the winning team was presented with a trophy made of garbage.  All the while, Mrs. Olson’s car was being re-decorated by Jette and Jessica with cheese whiz. For those of you who do not know, when Mrs. Olson was Grand Guardian of Wyoming, her car was mysteriously cheese whizzed at every single one of her grand visits. After a few months, she finally identified the cheese whiz master mind to be her Associate Grand Guardian, Mr. Anderson.  Now, as a tradition, the windows of her car are always decorated with cheesy yellow patterns.

Sunday morning before Wyoming’s final Grand visit for the year, there was a brief chapel service and brunch.  Mrs. Olson, Mr. Olson, and I ducked out of brunch so Mrs. Olson could finally get the revenge she had been waiting over fifteen years for.  Together we cheese whizzed, gummy beared, and saran wrapped Mr. Anderson’s truck to make up for the numerous cheese whizzing’s that had occurred years before.  So the lesson Mr. Anderson learned was do not mess with the Supreme team, because your car will pay the price.

Missouri

Sunday Mom Toni, Mom Marilyn, and I bummed around a little area known as St. Charles.  It was the first state capitol of Missouri, and has since been restored to become a major tourist attraction.  We visited several little shops and enjoyed the beautiful, sunny, spring afternoon.  On our way back to GG Mom Nancy’s house, we stopped off at a St. Louis favorite, Ted Drewes.  Hailed for having the best ice cream ever, Mom Olson and I were quick to agree this was a must-have for the end to a wonderful afternoon.

Monday we began our day with lunch at the St. Louis Bread Company (known to most as Panera), with Mom Nancy and the GBHQ, Daniella.  The four of us picked up Supreme Treasurer Mom Donna, and GBSP Jen, and went to visit the adorable animals at the zoo.  We saw everything from birds to polar bears to penguins, before going back to change for the meeting in the evening.  Bethel’s 4, 44, and 49 performed a combined meeting after an extraordinary home cooked dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, salad, macaroni and cheese, and much more.  The girls did a wonderful job of coordinating the ceremony and worked together very well to make it the best triple meeting Mom Marilyn and I had ever seen.  The Grand Bethel trio of GBHQ Daniella, GBSP Jen, and GBJP Caitlin did an exceptional job performing a tribute to Mother Mick at the close of the ceremony.  I am sure that everyone present would agree with me that the closing formation was their favorite part of the ceremony though.  The three Bethels formed the living cross, while on the other side of the altar, the GB trio formed a triangle.  It was an amazingly beautiful display and brought several in the audience to tears.

Tuesday Mrs. Olson, Mom Nancy, Mom Donna, Daniella, Jen, Caitlin, and I spent the day in downtown St. Louis.  We started the sight-seeing adventure at the Arch where we took a four minute ride to the top in very tiny pods, which combine the technology used in elevators, ferris wheels, and trains to make the journey.  From the top of the arch, we could see for miles, across St. Louis and the Mississippi River.  For lunch we met up with Mom Toni, and visited Crown Candy, known for their superb ice cream and candy.  Later that night Mrs. Olson went to dinner with several of the PGG and PAGG’s of Missouri.  While they were at dinner, the Grand Bethel trio, Mom Kim, and I went to Dave and Buster’s for some fun and games.  After a busy day, Mrs. Olson and I drove back to Mom Nancy’s to pack our bags for our next big adventure.

Illinois

For the journey to the Illinois Grand Pilgrimage, our supreme team was sadly short a few members.  Megan was unable to attend due to prior Miss Alberta obligations, and Colonel was still tending to his ill brother.  However, being as intelligent as she is, our Supreme Guide, Mom Toni, knew that Mrs. Olson and I would be lonely in our travels, so she joined us for the weekend.

Friday as Mrs. Olson and I arrived, we were greeted by PASG, Uncle Tom Sapp, and his wife, Aunt Carol, who were our chauffeurs, tour guides, and landlords for the weekend.  We cannot thank them enough for allowing us to settle in their lovely home for a few days.  Anyway, Friday evening the four of us went out for a superb dinner at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse.  After we were stuffed so full that we could no longer move, we dropped in on a pot-luck dinner at the Bethel in Peoria.  The four of us made it just in time for cake, followed by some fun and games.  The girls all played a few rounds of a highly entertaining game, Apples to Apples, while the adults chatted in the other room.  By this time, everyone was getting a tad drowsy, so we called it an evening.

Saturday we set out for Springfield, not only the capital of Illinois, but the home of President Abraham Lincoln.  During the Bethel meeting, presided over by the Chairman of Grand Representatives, Courtney, the daughters dedicated a special part of the ceremony to Mother Mick.  It was a phenomenal display of floor and memory work as well as our reverence for our founder on her birthday.  The girls then presented flower pots filled with our emblematic flower, the lily of the valley, to the Grand Guardian, Aunt Diane, and the Associate Grand Guardian, Uncle Bob.  Following the ceremony (and pictures, of course), there was a delicious home-cooked Mardi Gras themed luncheon.  Once we were back in casual comfy clothes, Vice Grand Guardian Barb Cooper, her mother Linda, PSG Susie Mentel, Mom Toni and a couple of Daughters headed to the incredible Lincoln Museum in honor of the Lincoln Bicentennial.  If you are ever in Springfield this museum is something that you must see!  After dinner together we then transferred our luggage to Mom Toni’s vehicle to set out for our next destination, the gateway to the west, St. Louis.

Iowa

Our latest travels have taken us to Council Bluffs, Iowa to celebrate 75 years of Job’s Daughters in Iowa.  Neither Megan nor Colonel was able to make this trip unfortunately.  Megan had prior commitments as Miss Alberta, and Col. was taking care of his ill brother.  Although we missed them both, Mrs. Olson and I still had a wonderful three day stay in “The Hawkeye State.”

On Saturday night after we arrived, Mrs. Hauser, the Bethel Guardian, Mr. Hauser, the Associate Bethel Guardian, and their daughter, Lisa, who was Supreme Bethel Honored Queen from 2002-2003, took Mrs. Olson, my mom, and I out for a wonderful dinner at Pizza King.  Not only do they specialize in pizza, but they also offer steak, Greek and Italian food, soup, salads, and chicken entrees as well.  After a very filling dinner, we took a scenic tour of Council Bluffs, home to the Black Angel, a Lewis and Clark memorial overlook, and several other historic landmarks.  Crispy Crème was our final stop of the evening for delicious ice cream cones in a variety of flavors, the most popular of the night being strawberry.

Saturday morning we went to the Masonic Temple in Council Bluffs for the 75th anniversary of Bethel #1.  The girls had a regular meeting in the morning, in which they showed off their amazing memory work before a homemade luncheon.  The meal was comprised out roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, a cherry Jello /apple sauce combination, and sherbet.  Following the meal we headed back upstairs in anticipation of the real celebration.  With over one hundred people in attendance, and numerous Eastern Star, Amaranth, Shrine, Masonic, and DeMolay dignitaries present, the event was a success from the start.  Mr. and Mrs. Hauser put an immense amount of time and energy into making the celebration an enormous accomplishment for Bethel #1, and they should be very proud of the Bethel they are helping support.  After a slideshow of the history of Iowa Job’s Daughters, the Cross with the Cross talk, and remarks, everyone went downstairs for a soup and sandwich dinner and some social time.

Congratulations to Bethel #1 on a phenomenal 75 years, and I wish you the best in what will hopefully be the next 75!  You have laid the ground work for future success in your Bethel, and I hope that you continue to be such amazing role models for Job’s Daughters everywhere!

MIJD Reception & Alberta Visit

This past weekend we had the privilege and honor of traveling to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for Megan’s Reception and the Alberta Supreme visit.  Although the weekend seemed to start out a bit rocky, with the Colonel unable to attend and Mrs. Olson’s flight being delayed several hours, it turned out to be one of our best trips yet!

Thursday evening Megan and her parents took us to Chianti’s, a phenomenal little Italian restaurant located downtown in what was once an old post office building.  The food was exceptional and there is no doubt as to why it is one of Megan’s favorites!  After dinner, a few of us went down to the airport again to greet the International Master Councilor, Richard, who flew all the way from Georgia to attend Megan’s reception.

Friday night we attended the official visit where the Grand Bethel girls conducted a special ceremony entitled “Gumdrops, Rainbows, and Lollipops” to show the bond of friendship across borders.  The girls all did a phenomenal job on their memory work.  Thank you so very much to Alberta for the donation to HIKE Canada, and the soft” quillow”s!  Cake and punch were served after the meeting, and the DeMolay came downstairs from their meeting to join us for the refreshments.

Saturday morning everyone flocked to the water park for a reprieve from the cold winter weather.  With bungee jumping, a wave pool, and numerous water slides, it was surely one of the highlights of the weekend.  For those that did not spend their morning in the water park, the stores at the world’s largest mall, West Edmonton Mall, were calling! Later in the evening, almost 175 people gathered to honor Megan and her achievements and dedication to Job’s Daughters at the Al Shamal Shrine Center.  The evening was a spectacular, sophisticated gathering complete with a roast beef dinner, entertainment courtesy of the Al Shamal clowns, a silent auction, and several remarks regarding Megan’s accomplishments.  As the reception came to a close, the winners of the silent auction were announced and the dance began.  Everyone danced the night away until almost one in the morning to music from all genres.

Congratulations to Alberta for organizing such a wonderful reception for Megan, I know that it was everything she had always dreamed of and more.  I feel so at home in Alberta, I always dread having to leave.  I will be back for Grand Session in March though, so I just have to keep counting down the days until I will be back in such wonderful, welcoming, and enthusiastic company again.

Jenna

MARYLAND

Our latest journey took us on an east coast adventure as we drove through Maryland and Delaware.   We were able to attend Maryland’s pageant, Supreme Visit, and Grandparent’s Day before heading up to Delaware for a Supreme Visit, Bethel meeting, and a pot-luck dinner.

Our trip to Maryland began with a harbor-side lunch in Baltimore at Phillip’s Crab House with GG Mom Laura, AGG Dad Charlie, GBHQ/Miss Maryland Job’s Daughter Lacey, and Supreme Rep Catherine.  At lunch Megan and I tried crab cakes for the first time.  We generally are not used to eating very much seafood, but we were delightfully surprised at how good the crab cakes were!  After lunch we headed over to Fort McHenry, the infamous fort Francis Scott Key watched the British attack while he wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner.”  We watched a presentation on the national anthem, explored the flag memorabilia, and then settled into the hotel before going to a meeting at Bethel #16, Glen Burnie.  Mrs. Olson was unable to attend the meeting because she was ill, and Col. was on his way to Maryland from Virginia, so Megan and I attended the meeting with Col.’s wife, Terry.  At the meeting, the girls presented us with certificates to announce that they were “adopting” us.  After the meeting we enjoyed delicious Maryland themed food and cake.

On Saturday, we were able to hangout with the girls competing for Miss Maryland Job’s Daughter.  The intense competition seemed to make the girls a bit nervous, but they really had nothing to worry about, they all did so well! After an incredible pasta dinner, it was time for the pageant, and guests were arriving by the dozens to find out just who the lucky new Miss Maryland Job’s Daughter would be.  Miss Maryland Job’s Daughter 2007-2008 Lacey presided over a wonderfully coordinated evening of festivities, gave her final good-bye as Miss, and then came the moment everyone was waiting for.  The new Miss Congeniality is Amanda C. and the new Miss Maryland Job’s Daughters is Caitlin L!  All of the girls in the pageant did a phenomenal job, and should be proud of their efforts!

Before our trek to Delaware on Sunday, we also attended a special ceremony done by the Princesses and Honored Queens of Maryland, a soup and salad luncheon, and a talent show the girls put together for the residents of the Masonic Home to enjoy.  We thoroughly treasured our time with the Maryland Job’s Daughters and adults; they are a special group of people who have amazing goals and ambitions that one day they will surely attain.

We had a relaxing stay in Delaware at Mom Susan’s house while we got to know the girls of the jurisdiction.  We attended a meeting at Bethel #4, Middletown, and then we headed down stairs for dessert and fellowship.  The girls did a phenomenal job in the meeting, and almost all of the stations were filled.  We were also able to attend an Aviation Museum with Mom Susan where we saw aircraft from both World Wars, as well as other periods of aviation ingenuity.

Next on our Delaware agenda was a pot-luck dinner where we were able to celebrate Mom Olson’s birthday! We won’t mention how old she is now, but everyone should know that she was very thankful for the creative birthday card Megan and I made for her, as well as the love and hugs she got from everyone else.  Anyway, the food at the dinner was out of this world and we had endless options as we went through the buffet style line. Over dinner Megan and I were educated on the many malls of Delaware, but disappointed by the fact that we were unable to visit a single mall on this trip (although I’m sure our parents are more excited by that than we are).  After a lovely rendition of Happy Birthday for Mom Olson, we headed home for one last night at Mom Susan’s before our drive back down to the Norfolk airport.

Now we are ready for a month long break of relaxation and tranquility at home… well maybe not.  But we would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a safe, relaxing break!  See you next year!

OHIO & KENTUCKY

Hello Everyone!

Well we are back from our week long venture to Ohio and Kentucky.  The weather was a bit chilly, but unfortunately there was no snow.  Bob was not able to attend either visit with us, but we did manage to find PSG Mrs. Denise Noonan for the journey through Kentucky.  She made the trip a bit easier by helpfully offering to drive us wherever we needed to go (mall included).

We began our official visit to Ohio with a two hour drive from Columbus to Belpre, a small town on the Ohio-West Virginia boarder. We got to know the girls a little bit better at a night filled with friends, food, and fun.  We played a Jobie version of Family Feud, the Ohio Grand Family vs. the Supreme Family.  Questions ranged from, “What is a Jobie’s favorite food?” to “What is a Jobie’s favorite way to earn money for HIKE?” . It was a very close game, but in the end, the Supreme Family pulled through with the win!  After Jobie Feud, three teams were made, comprised of the Ohio GG and AGG, Ohio Miss and GBHQ, Megan and I.  We sat back to back with our partner, and as the questions were read, each of us needed to hold up a sign that said our partner’s name, or our own, depending on who was the best answer to the question.  Some of the questions were, “Who is the better driver?” “Who spends the most time getting ready in the morning?” “Who has been involved in Job’s Daughters the longest?” and “Who is always right?” The game was quite comical, especially when answers differed.

We were also able to squeeze in a few tours during our short stay in Ohio.  We managed to visit the Fenton Glass Factory, to learn exactly how glass pieces are handmade.  We also made a stop at the Middleton Doll Company to view the history of doll making.  Both the dolls and the glass pieces were each handcrafted with such beauty and precision, it is quite obvious why both products became so popular.

Our next visit was to Kentucky. We were able to visit Bethel #19 in Florence as well as Bethel #18 in Louisville.  In Florence, we painted winter themed ceramics, had a “haunted” tour of the Scottish Rite Temple, and of course, ate amazing food! The night was relaxing and entertaining and I know all of us were very delighted that we made the trip.  We drove back to Louisville following our fun-filled evening with the girls and adults of bethel #19.

In Louisville, we attended Bethel #18’s initiation meeting.  The evening began with a home-cooked meal featuring roast beef, mashed potatoes, and rolls.  As we were eating, two amazing girls that most of you probably know, last year’s SBHQ, Jette, and MIJD, Brittney, dropped by to say hi. It was wonderful to see their smiling faces again!  The meeting went by with swiftness, and the girls did phenomenal on all of their ritual work, very few prompts were needed. Good job girls!  We were able to have a quick chat with some of the girls after the meeting before heading back to the hotel for the night.

Thank you to both Ohio and Kentucky for graciously hosting us, making sure our stomachs were never empty, and building friendships and great memories that will survive for years to come.

Jobie Love,

Megan & Jenna

News of Kansas Trip

submitted by Jenna Larson

Hey Everyone!

Our official visit to Wichita, Kansas was wonderful.  After a quick two hour drive from Oklahoma to Kansas, we settled into our hotel rooms, and went shopping at Dillard’s.  Once we got all of that shopping out of us, we went for dinner at Outback Steakhouse with the Grand Guardian, Mrs. Doll

Saturday morning before we headed off to the Kansas Grand Bethel meeting we stopped off for a quick shopping trip at Dillard’s and some breakfast.  We arrived a few minutes late to the Grand Bethel meeting, but they waited for us to begin, so we apologize for holding up the activities.  Grand Bethel Honored Queen Jessica did a phenomenal job presiding over the meeting, and all of the girls seemed to know their parts quite well.  During the meeting Mrs. Olson, Mr. Clore, Megan, and I were all presented with Member of Honor certificates and a few other trinkets.   Thank you to the state of Kansas and all of the Bethels for the certificates, we deeply appreciate the gesture and felt quite at home in your beautiful jurisdiction.   After the Grand Bethel meeting wrapped up, we enjoyed a delicious taco salad before heading to the local zoo.  We saw several different animals including penguins, gorillas, sloths, giraffes, and bats.  Later in the afternoon we drove to a park that was just down the road where we made cookies for HIKE and ate hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner.  Dinner was followed by - you guessed it - another trip to Dillard’s.  Now, we really do not going shopping this often on the rest of our trips, but there were actually purposes to each of these shopping ventures.  Anyway, we spent the rest of our night at the hotel with the girls, swimming, playing mini golf, and just getting to know the girls.  We said good-night and headed back to our hotel for a good night’s rest.

The last event we attended in Kansas was the chapel service at the Masonic Home’s Eastern Star Chapel.  The service was quite lovely and at the very end the girls of the Grand Bethel of Kansas performed the living cross with grace and beauty.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the cross and could agree that it was the perfect end to the weekend.  After chapel, we all said our good-bye’s, and parted ways to set out for home.

Hey Everyone!

We are back from our official visit to Oklahoma!  We arrived in Oklahoma and were immediately greeted by smiling Jobie faces, but before we could be carted off to the Gerow’s home, we discovered that the Colonel’s luggage never left the airport in D.C.  Not to fret though, it was delivered around midnight to the Gerow’s lovely home.  For dinner we were treated to a local favorite, Hideaway Pizza, where the food was like heaven in your mouth!

Thursday morning we woke up to a delicious breakfast and a busy day. After breakfast we went to the Gilcrease Museum of Western History.  Some of my favorite pieces included the Native American hand-made Kachina dolls, oil paintings of the landscapes of the Midwest, and the gallery on the 101 Real Wild West Show.  In addition to the Western art, Ansel Adams, an artist who specializes in photography, had a special exhibit of 138 of his best portraits on display.  The photographs ranged from pictures of people to unforgettable expressions of Yosemite National Park.  After the museum we dropped by the Woodland Hills Mall to do some shopping and have a bite to eat.  Megan and I decided to treat ourselves to pedicures while Mrs. Olson was tempted by a manicure.  While the girls were getting their nails done, the Colonel and Mr. Gerow wandered around and had a chat with security.  Don’t get to worried though, it was just a friendly conversation, they are still good, law-abiding citizens.  Later in the evening we went to one of the local lodges for a small gathering to do what Jobies do best – eat, talk, and laugh.  We played board games such as Life, Jenga, and Mancalla.  We really enjoyed our time with the girls, who we seemed to have quite a bit in common with.

Friday we awoke bright and early to the smell of a scrumptious home cooked meal.  After breakfast we brought all of our luggage down to the rental car to load up for the trip to Kansas, but much to our dismay, the trunk was too small to fit everything!  So after attempting to fit everything in the trunk in every different way imaginable, we opted to trade in the Charger for a Mini Van.  Although this did take us in the opposite way of our endeavors for the day, it was well worth the trip, because our nine different suitcases now fit without having to sit on Megan’s or my lap.  With our new car, we headed directly towards the town of Guthrie to tour the Scottish Rite Temple which was converted from the original state capitol.  The building was absolutely stunning, and each room was decorated in a different style such as Gothic, Ancient Roman, or Ancient Egyptian.  After walking up and down all of the marble steps, under all of the crystal chandeliers, and over all of the hand-made rugs, we headed to Pop’s for lunch.  Pop’s is an old-fashioned café and gas station that sells 150 different kinds of soda pop.  While at Pop’s we caught up with Miss Oklahoma Job’s Daughter Lailani and a few of the other girls.  After a relaxing lunch and chat with the girls, we loaded up the van and began our trip to Kansas.

Visit to Florida

 Submitted by Jenna Larson, SBHQ

Hey Everyone!  Well, we are back from our first official trip as the 2008-2009 Supreme Family, making our last stop in Florida.

When we arrived in Tampa, Florida, we were welcomed by hot, humid weather, and warm smiling faces.  From the airport we headed to the Florida Masonic Home, where we stayed in hotel-like rooms behind the actual facility.  After a quick dinner at a wonderful Chinese restaurant, we attended a combined round table meeting of Bethel numbers 9 and 13.  This was the first round table meeting I have ever attended, so for me it was quite interesting to spot the similarities and differences between a regular meeting and a round table meeting.  At the close of the meeting, Mrs. Olson, Col. Bob, Megan, and I were each presented with Member of Honor certificates from each of the Bethels.  This was a true honor for all of us, as none of us had ever received such an award before.  Thank you to each of the Bethels for letting us attend your meeting, and if you ever need any help, please let us know!  You girls are phenomenal!

Wednesday morning we were off to Orlando, Florida for a two day escapade in Walt Disney World, another first for all four of us.  We visited Magic Kingdom with the Supreme Deputy to Florida, Mrs. Reinhart, and her husband. We had an amazing time riding such rides as Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and others.  Later that night we went to Downtown Disney to do a little, well, a lot, of shopping.  Mrs. Olson, Megan, and I had a blast shopping for friends and family, while the Colonel carried the bags.  Surprisingly, when we went to the airport on Friday, none of our bags were over-weight from all of our new purchases!  Mrs. Olson and Megan cheated a bit though.  Mrs. Olson had to buy another piece of luggage to put everything in while Megan shipped her purchases home to Canada.

On Thursday the Colonel, Mr. Reinhart, Megan, and I went to Magic Kingdom to get a few last rides in before we headed to Animal Kingdom.  Animal Kingdom was fantastic, although all four of us agreed that we would have had a little more fun and gone on more rides had it not been so hot and humid.  It reached nearly 100 Fahrenheit that day!  We did manage to ride the Mt. Everest rollercoaster and watch the Lion King show.  The rollercoaster was amazing, even the Colonel agreed, and he has not ridden a rollercoaster in over 40 years!  The Lion King show was a cool, relaxing break from the muggy weather outside.  The show was similar to that of a Broadway show.  The characters sang and danced to the music of The Lion King, and there were even acrobats, flaming batons, and people on stilts.  After the Animal Kingdom, we packed up and headed back to the Masonic Home to spend the night before heading back home for a few weeks.

All in all, our trip to Florida was hot, fun, taught us several new things, and helped us meet a few new people.  We are all pretty worn out from our travels though, so I know we will all enjoy our time at home.

 Until next time,

Megan & Jenna

Michigan Leadership Camp

From MIJD & SBHQ

This weekend we “shared the gift” of friendship with the Michigan Job’s Daughters.  We attended their pirate themed leadership camp in beautiful Clare, Michigan from Friday the 15th until Sunday the 17th.  This was the first year that camp was held at Camp Rotary, so things were a bit different according to the girls, but everything turned out wonderfully.  There were pirate decorations everywhere!  The girls even made pirate ships for each table!  GBHQ Sarah, GG Mom Whitehead, and AGG Dad Pitts did a phenomenal job planning leadership this year!

We made new friends and were always busy with such activities as a treasure hunt, laughter yoga, Jobie Jeopardy, and a night hike.  Some of the girls also participated in a C.O.P.E course, rock wall climbing, and waterfront activities.  Our favorite part was TP-ing GBHQ Sarah’s bed though, thanks to the girls who let us help out with the fun!  During the treasure hunt, each team got a flag, chose a captain and first mate, and was then asked to figure out the clues they were given.   One clue included standing in a straight line with your shipmates and passing a glass of water over your head to the person behind you.  The second person would then pass the water under their legs to the person behind them. This process continued until the bucket at the end of the line was full of water.  Talk about learning teamwork!  Another challenge included a scavenger hunt for bones and another was digging for buried treasure.

Overall the weekend was a success, and the girls and adults both enjoyed themselves immensely.  We would recommend as many people as possible try to attend Michigan’s Leadership Camp next year!

BEGINNING

Hey Everyone!

As I sit down to write this, I’m two days away from my first trip as SBHQ and wondering what in the world I’ll forget, as I always seem to forget something when I travel.  In our first trip, we will be visiting Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Florida.  As I have only visited four states (including my home state, Minnesota) I’m quite excited to be venturing out with new friends to new territories.

Since most of you know very little about me, I think I’ll begin with some information about myself.  I’m 18 years old and from Anoka, Minnesota.  I have been a Job’s Daughter since May of 2005, so a little over 3 years, and held the offices of Chaplain, Marshal, Guide, Jr. Princess, Sr. Princess, and Honored Queen.  In June I graduated from Anoka High School and planned to attend the University of Minnesota – Duluth in the fall to become a Spanish and Sign Language interpreter.  I will be putting college on hold for the next year though to make Job’s Daughters my prime focus.  In high school, I was a three time cheerleading captain, actively involved in Choir, Link Crew, National Honor Society, and worked as a host and server at Texas Roadhouse.

Over the next year, I have a few goals for our Order and myself.  The first and most obvious goal is to see our membership increase.  My second goal was originally to visit every jurisdiction.  This however cannot be done, because Megan and I will not be traveling to the Philippines for safety reasons.  So instead of completely throwing out the whole goal, I decided to modify it to visit every jurisdiction besides the Philippines and get to know as many of you as possible.  My third and final major goal is for every girl to get as much out of Job’s Daughters as possible by traveling more, making new friends, and trying things she has never imagined possible.

Well, this is getting a bit lengthy.  I hope to see as all of you in the next year and hope to keep in touch with as many of you as possible.  Thank you for your many congratulations at Supreme, and I hope that I can live up to all of your expectations, if not exceed them.
