MIJD ACTIVITIES FOR

Nevada

On Thursday we began our tour of the Nevada jurisdiction with a visit to Reno.  Honored Queen Lacey and her mother, Marney, drove Mrs. Olson, Megan, and me to Lake Tahoe for the afternoon to take pictures and spend some time relaxing and enjoying nature.  After a nice nap later in the afternoon, we were off to Bethel #2’s meeting.  Before the meeting, everyone gathered for a stir-fry supper and a little time to meet the Bethel girls.  The meeting went very well; there were several members of the Masonic Lodge present, and Mrs. Hinman, PSG and the current Supreme Deputy to Nevada, was available to give the girls some ideas on how to further improve their wonderful Bethel.  We ended the night with an ice cream and cookie social, and some girls even got creative and made root beer floats for their post-meeting treat.

Friday while waiting for our plane at the Reno Airport, we had a bit of a celebrity experience.  For those of you who remember, in my opinion, the best boy band ever, N*Sync, you will be absolutely amazed to hear this.  One of the former members, JC Chasez, happened to sit right next to Megan and me while waiting for his flight to Los Angeles.  Now, we could not just let him get away without a picture, so we walked right up to him, without a bit of anxiety, and began talking with him and got the much anticipated picture.  Well, ok so maybe that is exaggerated just a bit.  Here is what actually happened: as JC got up to board his flight, Megan and I sheepishly followed him, the whole time debating how we were going to ask for a picture without sounding like total creepers.  About halfway to where JC was standing, Megan ran back to “guard the bags” and reinforcements were called in, aka Mrs. Olson.  Not being quite as star-struck as either of us, Marilyn asked what his name was, to which he kindly responded, “JC.”  She then asked if he would mind taking a picture with the Megan and I, and he thankfully agreed.  So Megan and I wore grins from ear to ear for the rest of the day, after meeting such an amazing teen idol.

In Las Vegas, we stayed at Treasure Island, conveniently located near Fashion Show Mall, which we visited several times during our free time.  On Saturday the three of us, along with Mr. and Mrs. Hinman, attended Bethel #5’s meeting.  This Bethel is extremely blessed because they have a full core of officers, along with several Jobie-to-Bees eager to join. We were also fortunate enough to catch up with Meghan Garibay, the SBHQ in 2006-07, at the meeting, and chat with her about what she has been doing since her term ended.  After the meeting, we drove to a Shrine Center for a spaghetti dinner, complete with salad, bread, and chocolate cake.  After dinner, the girls did a skit for us entitled, “Sunshine, Rainbows, and Lollipops.”  It was very cute and the girls had fun entertaining us!

While in Vegas we were also able to catch an aquatic Cirque du Soleil show, “ O” which is inspired by the purity and elegance of water.  All three of us would strongly recommend seeing this show, or one similar, if you ever get the chance to venture to Las Vegas. It certainly is one of the most stunning, extraordinary shows any of us had ever seen.  We enjoyed our time to sight see and get caught up in the lights of “Sin City”, but we cherished getting to know the Job’s Daughters of Nevada even more.  We treasured our time with both Bethels, and are eager to see them again (partially because of the shopping, but mostly because they are such a sweet bunch of girls!)

 Jobie Love,

Megan and Jenna

Grand Masters Conference
California Dreamin’

Greetings everyone from sunny California – the rain has finally stopped now that it is our last day here. Just our luck, we always bring rain with us.

Our visit to the Sunshine State began on Valentine’s Day, where we all flew into the Orange County Airport. The sole purpose of our trip to Anaheim was to attend the Grand Masters of North America Conference which began on Sunday.  We had the chance to catch up with some of our favourite California girls, including Darcy, Miss California, and Alison, Grand Bethel Honored Queen of California/ They presented the flags in the Opening Ceremonies. We also got to meet with a ton of Masons from near and far, as our booth was very attractive and caught everyone’s attention!

The timing of our trip happened to coincide with Darcy’s reception as Miss California, so we were lucky to get a ride over to the ceremony.  A beautiful and clever program was put on by Bethel # 97. Darcy’s future career aspiration is to become a TV News Anchor, so her Bethel set up “Channel 97” to honour her. It was lucky that we were able to go and see everyone, and congratulations  to “Channel 97,” for putting on a great event.

Monday morning was a busy one, as all the youth leaders had an opportunity to speak to the assembly of Masons. Jenna and I gave our speech together and were also able to listen to the DeMolay and Rainbow speeches.  During a break-out session later in the afternoon Jenna and I also gave a presentation about Job’s Daughters, and had a lot of fun doing it. We made a PowerPoint presentation and gave them all a little quiz about our organization. It proved to be highly entertaining.

Tuesday was almost as busy as Monday. We hung around our booth, as it was pouring rain again, and chatted with many Mason’s. We got to meet some Masons from Russia, Brazil and the Philippines! At 7 a.m., there was a breakfast hosted by Imperial  Shrine honoring DeMolay. There were a few speeches, one given by our friend Richard W. Eels II, International Master Councillor, and even the Imperial Potentate himself! You’ll want to be on the lookout for a new commercial with Justin Timberlake for the Shriner’s Hospitals

We packed up the booth at around 2, so we could get ready for the Banquet that evening. Of everything I have done so far in my travels as Miss International, this had to be one of the coolest things so far. The Banquet was in California Adventure, next to Disneyland, where we had an amazing time walking through the park to the Back Lot. Everyone was staring at this large group of people in formals and tuxedo’s – Jenna and I even got asked to take a picture with some tourists! There was a red carpet on the way into the Back Lot, where they had people dressed up as photographers snapping away calling us “princesses,” and “queens.” Mickey and Minnie even made a guest appearance, and we got a ton of pictures together with them. If that wasn’t enough, the park was closed down for us to take pictures and they put on a special showing of “Aladdin,” just for us. Genie had a great sense of humour – he was making Masonry jokes left right and center! Some of my favourites were:

“How many Mason’s does it take to chance a light bulb? It’s a secret.”

“(to Aladdin as Prince Ali) I would have sworn this would have worked. Making good men better!” (One of the Shriner’s slogan)

“Well we must not be important because we don’t have aprons.”

The Banquet brought an end to the fabulous Grand Masters Conference. Although we didn’t get a chance to check out Knotts berry Farm, Universal Studios, or any of the theme parks, we had a ton of fun. I wish I could come back next year!

Yours truly,

Megan Semaniuk – MIJD 08-09

New Mexico and Arizona!

Happy New Year Everyone! This past week marked our first trip of the New Year for the Supreme Family. In lieu of the frigid weather in Mom Olson, Jenna and I’s jurisdictions, we were fortunate to make it to New Mexico and Arizona, where the weather proved to be much nicer.

First stop was Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we attended Bethel no. 4 and 2’s meetings. Bethel no.4 had a great meeting, and Jenna and I were glad to fill in as the Princesses in the East. We had a lot of fun eating tacos, and hanging out with the girls.

The next day we visited “Old Towne Albuquerque,” where we shopped and got to check out some local galleries. It was that night that we attended Bethel 2’s meeting, where we were glad to announce that they had been taken out of reorganization!  We were also fortunate to see two women receive the Degree of Royal Purple, which I personally have not seen since Supreme!  New Mexico was really neat, and it was definitely true to its name. We will definitely miss the nacho’s and queso!

On Thursday we were on the road again to Arizona! We flew into Phoenix where we were greeted by some Past Grand Guardian’s and the Grand Bethel Honored Queen, Brooklyn. After grabbing a bite to eat, we headed over to get pedicures! Being one of Jenna’s and I’s favourite pastimes, we enjoyed getting our toes pampered! Brooklyn and Jenna had the opportunity to laugh at me, as my feet are extremely ticklish!

We ate at a cool Mexican Restaurant called Nando’s that evening, where we ate a ton of food. The portion sizes were huge, and we ate chocolate nachos topped with ice cream and caramel. It was amazing, and we even had to take a doggy bag back to the hotel!

Next was off to Campout, Arizona’s annual fun weekend up in the mountains of Prescott. It took us a few hours to drive up north, and we were able to stop at one of the tastier diner’s en route. Jenna ordered rhubarb pie, Marilyn cherry, and blueberry for myself. Before everyone headed up to camp that evening, there was to be a meeting to initiate 3 new girls into Bethel no.2. Bethel no. 2 had recently moved up from another part of Arizona, and has been doing very well in Prescott so far.  Jenna and I were shocked to find that one of the new initiates name’s was the exact same as the Junior Miss Minnesota! We were sure to get a picture of Jenna and her together to take back to Minnesota. After the meeting was a baked potato buffet and cookies, and then off to Campout.

That night everyone went to bed, but were awakened in the middle of the night by some pranksters with a rubber chicken. It took us until morning to figure out what was going on, as we were all half asleep when they invaded our room. It was pretty funny to see the chicken, as it was being stolen by different people throughout the weekend.  Saturday was full of fun things to do, such as a Grand Bethel meeting in the morning, a few group building activities and being with the girls. Grand Bethel Honored Queen, Brooklyn, helped us toilet paper one of the chaperones cars very thoroughly. We must have used at least 50 rolls of toilet paper, and we stuffed it EVERYWHERE.

After dinner there were skits, and “Rededication.” Rededication was put on by the Miss Arizona, Anne, and it was a beautiful activity. Everyone received a candle and passed the flame around the circle, while announcing when they were initiated. It was something I would like to do again if I ever get a chance.  S’mores were up next, and Jenna and I had fun with Arizona girls burning our marshmallows and dropping them on the floor. We hung out in our cabin until it was time to go to bed and slept through the night without a visit from the chicken!

After Beakfast we were able to take a group picture, and then had to head back to catch our flights back home. Arizona was great, and Jenna and I both agree that we will be coming back sometime soon!

Until next time,

SBHQ Jenna Larson’s Reception

Happy Holidays Everyone! This past weekend I had the privilege of attending Jenna’s Reception as Supreme Bethel Honored Queen held in Minneapolis/St. Paul. We arrived from Norfolk , Virginia, and Jenna and her mother took my parents and I out for dinner at Texas Roadhouse, where Jenna works. It was delicious, and if you are ever in the area you should ask Jenna to take you!

The next day we were able to check out The Mall of America, the largest mall in the United States. It has four levels, as well as a really cool Nickelodeon themed amusement park. Of course, I did some shopping (no shoes!) and then we headed back to the hotel to leave for the Hollidazzle Parade! The Hollidazzle Parade begins every year after Thanksgiving, and is on in downtown Minneapolis every night. It is full of numerous  cool displays decked in the brightest Christmas lights you could ever imagine. Most of Jenna’s Bethel came to watch the festivities with us, as we enjoyed warm cups of coffee!

The next morning Jenna and I woke up and were able to relax a little bit before everything really began. Social Hour began at Noon, where everyone mingled and got to watch a slideshow that Jenna put together of our year so far. It was a lot of fun to see everyone again – this being my third trip to Minnesota! We ate lunch, which consisted of green bean casserole, tater tot hot dish and chicken, all upon Jenna’s request. These are all “Minnesota dishes,” and were highly satisfactory! After we had finished eating, there was a roast by Minnesota’s Vice Associate Grand Guardian, Larry Jensen. He highlighted the major points of Jenna’s life, and was able to entertain us with some funny stories about Jenna. The new Miss Minnesota, Shannon Warchol, acted as Mistress of Ceremonies, and some other people – including Marilyn and myself, presented Jenna with gifts. She received a lot of dragonfly memorabilia as well as some gag gifts from yours truly!

From there, everyone went to the mall for a scavenger hunt. It was pretty busy at the mall on a Saturday, but everyone was able to shop up a storm nonetheless. A dance followed that evening, which was a lot of fun.  Due to predictions of winter storms fewer people than expected   showed up, but the ones who did come had a great time. We danced the night away to the Chicken Dance, Soldier Boy, as well as the Electric Slide, which Cheyenne Nelson, the first ever Jr. Miss Minnesota taught me. There were gummy bears everywhere, Jenna’s favourites, as well as sewer pipe sundaes – which Jenna’s home Bethel is famous for! If you want to know – ask her!

All in all, the weekend was a whole lot of fun. I’m so glad I was able to go and celebrate Jenna’s success with her jurisdiction. Every time I go to Minnesota, everyone treats me with kindness and warmth. Every time I leave, I can’t wait to come back. But for now, I’m headed home for the holidays. 2009 is going to be an amazing year, filled with new friends and adventures.

Have a great holiday, and happy New Year!

Jobie Love,

Megan Semaniuk – Miss International Job’s Daughter 2008-2009

VIRGINIA

Hey everyone!

The Past few weeks have been super busy for Jenna and I but we wouldn’t have traded them for the world. We have been touring most of the east coast, including Colonel’s home state of Virginia! This was our first stop where we got the chance to experience southern hospitality.

Our activities began on Saturday, when Mrs. Olson, Colonel, Jenna and I visited Williamsburg, and old style colonial settlement. It was cool to see everyone dressed up in old southern style wares, and act out their characters. We walked around after viewing a movie about the origins of the town , and ate a yummy lunch at “The King’s Tavern.” Before we left, a band of drummer boys began playing as they marched through the town. We found that very entertaining!

Next it was back to the hotel to get ready for pageant. Virginia was lucky to have 11 girls competing for Miss Virginia Job’s Daughter, as well as their alternates. For those of you who don’t know what alternates are, alternates are voted by their Bethels to run in the pageant if their contestant is unable to compete. It was nice to see a full stage, and cheer on the retiring Miss Virginia, Nathalie Spitza. She did a beautiful job during her year as well as at pageant, and it was clear that the jurisdiction of Virginia will not forget Nathalie anytime soon! The results were in, and Ms. Kelsey Friend was chosen as the 2009-2009 Miss Virginia Job’s Daughter, and will represent Virginia proudly at the 2009 Dixieland Express Sessions.

The next morning, we attended Virginia’s official Supreme Visit. Prior to, there was a church service put on by their Grand Chaplain. This was a meeting of Honored Queen’s and Princesses of the state of Virginia, and it was executed without a flaw. We were all very impressed by their memory and floor work, and enjoyed the beautiful poem they recited for us. We also learned the difference between a “Jefferson Cup,” and a “mug,” which we will be reminded of  until 2009 Sessions!

We then left the hotel and had a wonderful pancake breakfast/lunch, and then off for some rest. The next day we were able to view the hotel that Supreme Sessions is going to be held at next year. The hotel is really nice, and the Convention Center is right across the street. An employee with the hotel showed us some of the rooms, which are very nicely decorated. Supreme Should be excellent next year, especially since it is in the beautiful state of Virginia!

We hung out at Colonel’s house for the next few days. Most of the Virginia delegation would know, but Colonel’s house is the house he grew up in as a boy. It is over 100 years old, and used to be a cheese factory. We can’t wait to go back.

We also had the opportunity to have dinner with the council and a Daughter from a Bethel in Ralegih, North Carolina. It was relatively close to Colonel’s house, so we packed up our stuff and headed for dinner. We were a bit early, so we did some shopping and then went to the restaurant. The meal was delicious, as we visited with the council and Katherine. That night we drove back to Virginia, where we stayed the next few days until heading off for Maryland.

That’s all for now, but we will talk to you soon!

Jobie Love,

Megan Semaniuk – MIJD 08-09

Wow! What an amazing 2 weeks I’ve had. Our most recent adventure took Mrs. Olson, Colonol, Jenna, Mrs. Noonan and I to beautiful Brazil ! It was an experience I will never forget, and I wish all of you could have come to share the trip with us.

Our first stop was in Sao Paulo , to a town called Santos . We were greeted by Bethel no. 7, who took us to the hotel. In Santos , we attended their annual Congress, which was hosted by Bethel no. 7.  Nothing anyone could have told me would have prepared me to walk in to that room with all the Jobies. As we walked inside, everyone started cheering and screaming at the top of their lungs, with blow horns and whistles! One girl even started crying when she met Jenna and I! The girls in Brazil have so much enthusiasm for Job’s Daughters it was astonishing. I was truly touched with how well they treated us. Bethel no. 7 hosted a very large open meeting, and I wish you could have heard them all sing. After, there was a dance where we met some Brazilian DeMolay! They are all very friendly and interested to hear about how we do things in North America . We also tried to dance, however the girls dance a little differently than we are used to, and we sort of embarrassed ourselves!

While in Sao Paulo , we also visited a coffee museum! Brazilian coffee is world renowned and we got to learn a bit about the history of coffee in Brazil , and even sample some ourselves. Mrs. Noonan, Mrs. Olson and Colonol got used to their morning coffee, as it was so delicious.

Our first leg of the trip set the bar pretty high! Next, we headed to Rio Grande de Sul. It had been raining our entire stay in Santos , which we all found depressing, and in Rio Grande de Sul, it was no different.  More rain!  But the girls helped us from getting too blue. We arrived at 5:30 AM by bus, and there were about 20 girls waiting to greet us. It was here in the early morning that we tried a native tea that is drunk out of a metal cup and straw, and looks something like moss. It’s a morning staple for them, and we all agreed once we tried it that it was an acquired taste. After food and some rest, we got up and checked out downtown Livramento, the town we had drove in to. We even walked across the border to Uruguay ! Livramento is lucky to be right on the border of the two countries, and they are very proud to have members of both in their Bethel . We tried our first BBQ that night – which was delicious. You have to try it to find out! They also brought in some native dancers to show us some of the Rio Grande de Sul/ Uruguay –an culture. We also attended a Bethel meeting, where again we were impressed with their singing. Unfortunately, we had to leave very shortly after as we were catching a night bus for our plane the next morning.

Santa Caterina was our next stop, and this jurisdiction is big! They are the second highest jurisdiction for membership aside from California . Upon arrival, we were taken to a hotel to rest, and then off to a market place to do some shopping. We had to drive a few hours to get to Tubarão, where we then had a pizza party with two of the Bethels.  Jenna and I were feeling adventurous, and tried different kinds of pizza, such as chicken heart pizza, as well as dessert pizza’s. The next day we had the pleasure of going to a spa! I got my very first massage, as well as lounged in the sauna and hot tub. We then headed to the Lodge, which we have to say was the most beautiful Lodge room I have ever seen. Every Lodge room in Brazil has a ceiling painted like the sky. I wish our lodge rooms looked the same! We had a practice and I wish everyone could see how they run things down in Brazil . Each girl pays attention to details and takes such pride in their work. They had a lot of questions for us, which we took pleasure in answering. Santa Caterina has hopes of becoming a Grand Jurisdiction and I think they would be perfect for it! We attended their Installation of JGC officers and afterwards, we were showered with gifts and picture taking. They gave us souvenirs, a jewellery box, notebooks, t-shirts, etc... Everyone even wanted us to sign photographs that they had taken with us earlier that day, and it was very overwhelming and flattering. Our visit to Santa Caterina was one that I would definitely make again, and I have every confidence in their future success!

Next up was Sergipe, which is in North East Brazil. We only stayed two days, but it was enough for us to see that the one Bethel is fabulous. This was also the first place we went that there was no rain, so we got to go to the beach! Jenna and I got sunburns, which I am still peeling from! We also attended meetings with the council, and we were impressed by the involvement of their majority members. We did some shopping, of course, as Mrs. Olson had to buy a new suitcase. Ours were all overflowing! The night before we left, there was a Bethel meeting, which was short and sweet, accompanied by a dinner afterwards. Then it was back to the hotel – we had to leave by 3AM the next morning!

Time flew by so fast, and we were already at our last stop to Rio Grande de Norte! Again, there was no rain, which made us all happy! We took a bus ride to Mossoró, where there are two Bethels in existence. Rio Grande de Norte’s economy depends on Petrol, natural resources and salt – so we got to visit a salt factory! It was very informative, and I even sampled a bit of their salt. I was lucky to also see Rio Grande de Norte be installed as Grand Guardian Council on our last night there. It all happened so fast – Mrs. Olson and Mrs. Noonan put it all together in a matter of 24 hours. It was very cool to see, and this is only the second jurisdiction to go Grand. Minas Gerais was the first jurisdiction, and almost every jurisdiction in Brazil has the members to go Grand. In the future, I am positive we will see more Grand jurisdictions be instituted.

After 16 days, it was time to go home. This trip was a learning experience for all, and I am so glad I went. I would love to go back if I ever get another opportunity, and I encourage anyone who wants to go to do so! All in all, we learned a thing or two about each other as we tried new things and met new people. I couldn’t’ have asked for a better team to travel with.

Obrigata, and Ciao for now!

(Thank you and Goodbye in Portuguese!)

Leadership Weekend & SG’s Reception Omaha, Nebraska

Hey all! This past weekend we all had the opportunity to head to the birthplace of Job’s Daughters and learn a new thing or two at the annual Job’s Daughters Leadership Weekend!

Everyone arrived on Friday, where we all attended an opening workshop to discover what kind of leadership style we were. We were identified according to shapes, and everyone had fun describing themselves depending on what kind of a shape they were. Surprisingly, there were hardly any triangles! Afterwards, there was a small get together in Mrs. Olson’s room, where there were delicious cookies and yummy lemonade. Everyone was quite tired from traveling that day, so we all fell asleep quite early.

The next morning, bright and early, we were eating breakfast and getting ready for our first seminar. As the majority of the adults left to do CAV Training, we discussed how to describe Job’s Daughters to others, and practiced our “elevator speeches.” It was a lot of fun, and with our Supreme Chaplain, we also discussed what we like and dislike about the many aspects of our organization. The girls and the adults seem to have common ground on what they like and what they want changed, and it was very educational!

After lunch, we all were shuttled over to Headquarters in Papillion, Nebraska. Only about a 10 minute drive, we arrived and all got a good look of the “International Walkway.” This was  Jenna’s and my first time to the Supreme Office, it was cool to find people we knew on the bricks. We took a lot of pictures and saw a lot of interesting history. We finally got to see where all the people we contact work, and visited the small museum inside. There was amazing history, and I learned a lot. Jenna and I even got to try on some of the old style crowns, and saw pictures of original Jobies and their regalia.

We were then taken back to the Holiday Inn, where after a quick rest we attended a small meeting with the girls to talk about the Ritual. Margie George, and Pam Leech, members of the Ritual Revision Committee for 2011 were present, and there were a lot of good ideas put on the table. It was suggested that we put a new ceremony in the Ritual with meeting protocol for smaller Bethels, and also suggested that we include a copy of the proficiency work as an insert.  The girls also want to see Daughters receive honors in Escort, Introductions and Honors, and that was received well. Once all the bound and small Rituals we all know are sold, we will be moving to a notebook size format.

That evening was Mrs. Olson’s Reception as Supreme Guardian. The food was fantastic, and the cheesecake was delectable, and it was great to celebrate Mrs. Olson’s successes thus far.  The MC told us some entertaining stories about every one of us, and I learned that Colonel enjoys building large fires, Mrs. Olson’s dog has interesting habits, and that Jenna thought the words to Van Halen’s “Panama,” was “Canada.” We all cracked up over those interesting facts, and after Mrs. Olson was presented with gifts, we all took pictures and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

The next morning, everyone gathered for a warm breakfast buffet and a “wrap around workshop.” Shelly Cole guided us in our workshop, as we discussed what we liked and disliked about the weekend, and the things we think we need to overcome in the future.  There was some great discussion and some great ideas, and we are all working to change our organization for the better!

All in all, the weekend was amazing. I am so glad that Jenna and I attended, as we learned new things about ourselves and the Order. I would definitely want to go again next year, when it is in Utah, so I hope I see you there!

Tales from the Oregon Trail

Greetings from the “Land of the Beaver”! This past weekend, Colonol, Mrs. Olson and I had the opportunity to visit Oregon State and visit the wonderful girls as they prepared a fabulous weekend.

(Jenna was not able to make it to Oregon. She was attending Minnesota’s Grand Reception, where they honoured their Miss Minnesota, Kaitlin, among others who have been working hard this past year.)

I arrived on the Thursday, meeting Mrs. McManamon and Monica McManamon at the airport. The two of them were in a frenzy, because they did not have my correct flight information! They had no idea when my flight got in, and were not prepared with the bright pink sign as I entered the baggage claim area. However, Monica was wearing her Job’s Daughter t-shirt, and I could easily find her. After we picked up my bags, we drove to Canby, Oregon and ate a delicious meal of Mexican food. We had to rush after dinner, in order to get to a Bethel meeting in time. There were three Bethels pro –temming together, and I had the privilege of being Jr. Princess and sitting in the East. It’s been a long time since I was Jr. Princess, and I forgot how much fun it was! After the meeting, a few of the adults and the Grand Bethel Honored Queen, Veronica Reed, and I headed to Portland for a late dinner. We had an interesting drive, and ate some amazing macaroni and cheese (my favourite dish). All of our leftovers came in original tin foil creations! Veronica received a flower, and there were also penguin and a dove shaped leftovers.

We got back to the McManamon’s house quite late, and came to realize that Mrs. Zimmerman, Grand Guardian,  was there waiting for us! She spent the night, and we all decided to head to bed. The next day, I helped with the grocery shopping as we had to buy food for the dinner on Saturday! We headed to Costco and Thriftway, sampling yummy goodies along the way. Then that evening, a few of the girls, including the Supreme Bethel Chaplain, Kelsey Richert) attended a High School Football game at Canby High School. Veronica, being the Captain of the Canby High School Flag Team, was amazing to watch, and made the game a great experience. Their team ended up winning, and we celebrated over junk food and movies! A whole bunch of the girls slept over at the McManamon’s, where we got to have girl time.

The next morning, we woke up and were shuffled over to Lloyd Center. We shopped for a bit, as well as went Ice Skating! It was a lot of fun, and it was entertaining to watch the girls try and skate! We bought some “Joe Brown’s” famous popcorn, and I tried my first ever caramel apple. It was very good, but very messy! Mr. Richert got some awesome photos of me attempting to eat the apple. The rest of the girls had to head over to the Lodge for a practice for that evening, while I got ready.

We all met back at the Lodge for dinner at 5:30, and then we all got together for the Grand Bethel’s ceremony at 7. They had a great meeting, and performed a beautiful ceremony commemorating 9/11. It was very touching, and I'm glad I got to see it. We had snacks after, and then headed off for a sleep over at Kelsey’s house! We pigged out, and played DDR, and then I had to be up super early the next morning to catch my plane!

All in all, I had a great time in Oregon! The girls are enthusiastic, and it’s great to see. I hope to use my frequent flyer miles, and come back soon!

International Day 2008

Supreme Visit to Washington and British Columbia

Greetings from the Supreme Team! This past weekend we were very fortunate to attend International Day 2008 in Seattle, Washington! This served as our Official Visit to Washington as well as British Columbia, and we had a blast! Each year International Day is held in either Washington or British Columbia, and it was great to see the two jurisdictions work together to plan this special day.

All four of us took different routes to get to Seattle. Jenna flew to Pheonix, and then to Seattle where she was picked up and generously hosted at Mr. And Mrs. Morgan’s house. Mr. Morgan is Washington’s Associate Grand Guardian, and there was a slumber party that night with some of the Washington girls, and they got to know Jenna a little better. The next day they went shopping at an outlet mall, where they got to have a little girl time and browse the shops.

I flew to Vancouver, British Columbia on Thursday, Where I was met by Mrs. McMurchie, Vice Grand Guardian and Sydney Simpson, Miss British Columbia Job’s Daughter. That night, we had pizza and junk food and watched Disney Movies at the McMurchie’s household. Very early the next morning, the McMurchie family and I headed out of Surrey and drove down to Seattle. We were greeted very warmly by all the Daughters of Washington, as they had a practice at 11 AM and were all there as we arrived.  International Day itself was held at Alki Masonic Hall in Seattle, which was quite hot! The weather outside was beautiful, and in turn made a sauna out of the Masonic Lodge! After the practice was over, and I had a moment to freshen up, we had a yummy lunch of cold cuts and fruit.

The ceremony began at 2 PM, where Jenna and I were quickly summoned to be escorted in. We were lucky to sit in the East, and bring remarks. The Ceremony consisted of introducing all the dignitaries, the Lord’s Prayer, exchanging of gifts between the two jurisdictions, as well as beautifully signing Josh Groban’s song, “Your Raise Me Up.” Mrs. Olson quickly began tearing up, and had to clutch on to Jenna and I for support.  Thank you British Columbia and Washington for your beautiful gifts! The Washington chocolate was very delicious, and the pants are very comfy!

After the ceremony, we took some pictures and headed down stairs for juice and light desserts. The Eastern Start had a Luau Dance at the Alki Masonic Hall that evening, so we were all sheparded out of the Hall to another Masonic Hall a ways away.

Jenna, the McMurchie’s and I played a trick on Mrs. Olson, telling her that she had been left at the last Hall. Everyone else had left, and she had no one to give her a ride, and so she came with the McMurchie’s and I. Marilyn fell for our trick, and got all worried. We eventually “found” Jenna, and headed back into the Hall for a Spaghetti Dinner. The dinner was fabulous, and it was entirely cooked by one of the Bethel 28 from Washington. Awesome job! Once our tummies were all full, Mrs. Olson, Colonel Bob, Jenna and I had a quick talk with all the girls and chatted with them about upcoming events and Job’s Daughters in general. Following this, we had a “Bunco Tournament,” which is a game played with dice. Your goal is to get three of a kind of the number of your round. For example, if we were on Round 1, you would want to get three 1’s to get a “Bunco,” which was 21 points. It was loud, and fun, and all the girls really got into it. Prizes were handed out for “The girl who dropped the dice the most,” and “the person who travelled the farthest to get here,” and other various awards.

Everyone was pretty tired by this point, so we all settled in to watch movies in the Lodge Room and talk. Finally, every one drifted off to sleep, and woke the next morning to a delicious breakfast of individual omelettes and homemade cinnamon buns.  Everyone then started to pack up and headed on their separate ways.

All in all, it was a great weekend, and we can’t wait to come back. We hope to make it out to Washington’s Sessions in June! But until then, take care!

Wisconsin and Michigan

Submitted by Megan Semaniuk, MIJD

Hey girls! I hope everyone is beginning to get excited for the new school year and that you can go back and say you had a great summer.

Jenna and I have had a busy week!  Earlier this week we left Flint, Michigan and headed off to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  We were greeted warmly at the airport, where we were then taken out for lunch at a Kopps Diner.  If anyone has ever been to Kopps, then you will believe me when I say it is good. Filling, but good.  We toured around Milwaukee for the two days of our trip, where we got to meet the new Miss Wisconsin and Miss Wisconsin Congeniality, as well as the Grand Bethel Honored Queen.  Jamboree was held the weekend prior to our visit, so everyone was excited and ready to kick off the year with their new leaders.  Jenna got to go to the zoo with the girls, and I unfortunately had to stay back in the hotel and recuperate.  I was feeling quite under the weather, so I apologize to the girls for not being able to get out there!

Wisconsin held a beautiful reception for us on the Tuesday night, which consisted of a few of the talents from Jamboree performing, as well as food and drinks.  We went to the Reception straight from a tour of the Sprecher’s Brewery.  They make fabulous soda’s, aside from beers, and we did get a chance to try the soda’s out.  They were quite tasty, and we saw why Wisconsinite’s go crazy for it! We want to thank Wisconsin for their hospitality after what has been a busy summer for them!  It’s not easy to plan event after event, and Wisconsin pulled it off fabulously!

We were off to the airport once again, where we headed to Minneapolis-St. Paul for Disney Princess Camp.  We headed straight for the camp that evening, where we spent the night.  Jenna was right at home with her girls, and I was made to feel at home.  I can’t thank you girls enough for being so nice and understanding!  There were a lot of large and hairy spiders, and it was not as warm as it could have been, but we all survived and had a great time.  We even attempted the polar bear swim, however we did not stay in very long.  I even went off the water weenie twice!  However, I did not reach the end. Sorry to disappoint you!  But I did try...I think I deserved one of those awards for style by the way...

Just kidding! But we had a fabulous time, and we enjoyed all the skits everyone had to come up with.  The whole weekend was magic, and it was so much fun to see all the costumes and enthusiasm Minnesota has for Job’s Daughters.  The dunk tank was amazing too, and managed to raise almost $1000 for Jenna to travel with.  Minnesota is awesome, and I can’t wait to go back for Fall-In!

By this stage in the game, we have learned quite a bit about each other, such as:

-          Colonel Bob says he likes “Peanut Butter, Cheese and Pickle sandwiches”

-          Mrs. Olson snores and talks in her sleep.

-          Mrs. Olson  gets a lot of phone calls (go figure!)

-          Jenna and I have started to dress alike.

-          Raspberries are Mrs. Olson’s and my favourite fruit.

-          Because of my citizenship, I get teased quite a bit for various things :-P

-          We can take naps in 20 minute increments.

-          Among many other interesting facts, we seem to like each other and have gotten off to a good start.

Once again, thank you to Wisconsin and Minnesota for being fabulous. We will let you know how the Florida trip goes, as well as our trip to Disney World!!!

 Until next time,

MICHIGAN

Hello Everyone!

It’s been a whirlwind of a week. I have been home for a week and I am already leaving home to begin our first adventure as the Supreme Team!

First I am off the Michigan for their Leadership Camp. It’s Pirate themed, and I’m imagining that it is something like our Grand Bethel Fun Weekend that we have here in Alberta. We get together in the winter and have a campout weekend. Then I am off to Wisconsin for their Jamboree. Hey...wasn’t I just in Wisconsin? Then we are heading to Minnesota, to see Jenna’s girls as they have their Disney Princess Camp. I’m pretty excited to dress up like a princess and get to know Jenna’s jurisdiction a little better. She even tells  me that she has a Bethel meeting she wants to take me to. Then  our final destination is Tampa, Florida, where we will meet up with everyone. I have never been to Florida before, and don’t know exactly what to expect. But I am told that it will be amazing, and hot! Mrs. Olsen says that we will be able to go to Disney World! Too bad I couldn’t pick up a costume their  for Minnesota’s Camp, eh? Finally, I will be going home, where I will stay for a period of time, before heading off on our next trip! I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Have fun as you start school, and remember I’m just a phone call or email away!
