Impaired Job’s Daughter Installed as Honored Queen in Virginia
Submitted by Robert Ridenours, PGG Md, Proud Grandmother On
June 14, 2008, Nicole (17 years old) was installed as Honored
Queen of Bethel #16 of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Nicole is profoundly deaf and was a previous recipient of a HIKE
award. She had an ASL
interpreter at the installation which was an awesome sight to see.
In lieu of songs at her Installation, she had two poems signed and
spoken by a Bethel sister and the interpreter.
The room was full including the presence of our Associate Supreme
Guardian, Dad Mike Hoglund. She
has attended many Grand Guardian Council Sessions in Maryland (often
escorting her grandmother, Mom Roberta Ridenour, PGG of MD) as well as in
the Commonwealth of Virginia. Many
of our Maryland Job’s Daughters know Nicole very well and attended her
installation. Many of her
Jobie sisters in Virginia have learned signed language and can communicate
with her very easily. She
will be attending Supreme Session 2008 in Madison, Wisconsin. She
will be with her Mom Linda and her grandmother who is a member
of the HIKE Board. Nicole will be escorting Dad Bob Clore, Vice Associate
Supreme Guardian, at the Formal Opening on Wednesday evening. Please feel free to greet her whenever you may see her.

Not only did this celebrate 70 years for their Bethel, but also 70 years of Job’s Daughters in PA. Past Honored Queens, Majority Members, Past Bethel Guardians and Associate Bethel Guardians as well as family and friends joined together for a great covered dish and cake – complete with singing of Happy Birthday. Fourth Generation MD Job's Daughtersby Michael Hoglund, Associate Supreme Guardian On March 20, 2008, a fourth generation Job's Daughter was initiated. She is Naomi Hoglund, the Granddaughter of Associate Supreme Guardian, Mike Hoglund. Bethel 62, La Plata, Maryland was able to have the Initiation on a night that Dad Hoglund was home from traveling. Pictured are Barbara Ridge (Majority Member, PGG of the District of Columbia), Bobbie Hoglund (PHQ 4, Washington, DC, PGG of Maryland), Kim Miles (PHQ 62, La Plata, MD, PGBHQ of Maryland), and Naomi Hoglund (the newest member of Bethel 62, La Plata, MD).
Bethel
#1 Anchorage to Walk for MS
By members of Bethel #1 Bethel #1 of Anchorage, Alaska was asked to assist Chevron by walking with the Chevron Chargers Team in the 2008 MS Walk to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. Chevron is a corporate sponsor of the MS Walk and wanted to wrap as many people affiliated with Chevron with their team. Our Bethel Guardian operates the IM Center for Chevron in Anchorage. As the word got out that the Jobies would be walking Anchorage Lodge #17 had 9 members ask if they could also walk as part of the Chevron/Jobies team. At the present time 33 Jobies and Masons have registered to walk with the Chevron Chargers Team. If you would like to donate to the Bethel’s effort of raising funds for MS Google: Chevron Chargers, click on National MS Society – Walk Event, find Chevron Chargers in the list, click on the team name and you can pledge to any of the names listed. Pictures will be in the next news up date. Celebrate!
Celebrate! March 9th
is Mrs. Mick’s Birthday!
by Tomilynn E. Willits McManus, PHQ, PSG,
Curator Once again we
come to that wonderful time of year when Bethels throughout the
Job’s Daughters’ World celebrate the birth of our founder,
Ethel T. Wead Mick. Be
sure and plan a special tribute in honor of Mrs. Mick at your
meeting closest to March 9th.
You will find
Mother Mick Tributes in the Book of Ceremonies, and there are
other things you can do as well.
For example, a member could read one of Mrs. Mick’s
poems or a short history of our organization, each Daughter
could briefly say what Job’s Daughters means to her, or
everyone could sing “Happy Birthday” and perhaps even have a
birthday cake after your meeting.
These are all ways in which to remember what a wonderful
gift Mrs. Mick has given us. As Curator of
the Mick Memorial Room, I would like you to include one more
thing during your first meeting in March.
Please consider having a Coin March for the Mick Memorial
Room so I can continue to preserve and display the wonderful
historical items in our collection at the International Center
for Job’s Daughters in Papillion, Nebraska.
You can see many of these items on the Curator website
at: http://www.jdicurator.org/
or go back to the “home page” and click on “Curator”.
There you will find articles on the early history of our
organization, some of Mrs. Mick’s writings, a tour of the
Reading Room, and much more. And, what am I
doing to celebrate Mrs. Mick’s birthday?
A Bethel has invited me to talk about Mother Mick on
March 9th, and on the 10th I am hosting a
luncheon in my home for ladies I have known for many years in
Job’s Daughters. I
know our time together will include a lot of fond memories and
much laughter. As March 9th
draws near, there are many ways in which each of us can honor
our founder, whether with a group or just a few moments of
solitary reflection. Whatever
you choose – remember to include these four words:
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Mick!
Missouri is Growing!Submitted by Donna Goede, PHQ, GG of MO
On Saturday December 29 the Grand Guardian Council of Missouri
welcomed a new Bethel in an area of the state that had never had
Job's Daughters! Bethel UD of Lebanon, Missouri was opend by the
Grand Bethel of Missouri
preforming an initiation, a Jobie to Bee Ceremony and then doing
installation of Officers. The Grand Guardian Council installed
the Bethel Guardian Council. Bethel UD is the third Bethel to be
opened/reinstituted in the past year for Missouri.
Bethel #1 was about to be closed when it was moved to the Kansas
City area in early November and revitalized with ceremonies
similar to those held in Lebanon.
Last December Bethel #34 was reinstituted in Farmington,
Missouri and was just recently removed from the list of
Bethels under re-organization. Much of the credit for the growth
in Missouri
is related to the support of the Grand Lodge of Missouri
and a special award given to Lodges who can bring a new youth
group into their Temples! Farmington Lodge, Swope
Park Lodge in Kansas
City and Laclede Lodge in Lebanon
have all pledge their support for their Bethels and have great
relationships with the members of the Bethels. Grand
Guardian Donna Goede's theme for the year is
"Celebrate our World" For Missouri
the world is really growing!

After we stayed without Congress in the State in 2004, 2005 and 2006, on days 12, 13 and 14 of October, we had the Bethels Congress in great style.
Eleven (out of fifteen bethels in the state) were present, and we still had the representation of Bethel 18 Belo Horizonte (Terra de Uz), with the presence of Ludmila Murta. From my calculation we had about 220 people in this Congress, counting Daughters and Guardian Council Members, and for the State of São Paulo is a very good number, considering the three years without congress, the distance in the state, that are not few, and the fact that we don’t have a strong Congress tradition like in the South and Northeast of Brasil.
Dia 12/10
On the arrival all the Bethels were welcomed by the host Bethel , Bethel 3 Ibitinga, we took the kit and we had time to fraternize with all the Bethels. The official opening was made at 10 am, with the interesting presence of authorities of the three civilian powers.
After the opening, lunch and tranport to the hotel. All the Bethels ended all on the same hotel, which helped a lot in the bonding of the girls, espeacially because it had a swimming pool, and in all the free time it was filled with jobs daughters from all bethels, that were having a great time.
We got back at the hotel and we had a lecture about happiness, that not only passed us important things, was very cheerfull and didn’t let anyone sleepy, even though some were tired from the trip to get to Ibitinga. After it was Ludmila Murta’s turn (PHQ and PBG of Bethel 18 Belo Horizonte, and Past Miss Jobs Daughter of the Grand Council of Minas Gerais) to pass to us very interesting facts about the rules and the Miss International Jobs Daughter Peagent and Miss Congeniality Peagent works, a lot of things that she said about the test aplied in the Supreme Session I didn’t even know, and I realised how our peagents here in Brasil don’t preprare the girls for the Peagent in the Supreme Session, maybe because we don’t hope them to actually go to a Supreme Session due to the financial dificulties for most of the Bethel (if not all of them).
To end the night, we had a luau, in a very pleasant farm, the girls had a lot of fun, with a band playing live and a DJ too. The party went on until midnight and we got back to the hotel to rest and recharge our batteries for the next day.
Dia 13/10
In the morning the girls had na activity to bond, they were separated by colors, so in all groups there were girls from all Bethels. For the adults was decided a shopping morning, because Ibitinga is famous by her handwork, I didn’t see the activity, but by what I heard from a lot of girls I know it was really cheerfull. Even though it was an acticity for the girls, adults from some Bethels insisted in being present, making the girls not have total liberty.
In the afternoon open meeting with the Friendship Ceremony and was given the Charter to the Bethel UD Jaú, that now is know in the state of São Paulo as Bethel 12 Jaú. Once again the emotion was there in all that participated in the meeting. I report the importante presence in the meeting of Aunt Gilda Grigolin, ASD of Paraná, with her husband and daughter, that is a Majority Member of the Order.
At night there was a custome party, in the same place as the luau, this time with the presence of the Demolays. The girls that already had a great time in the luau, had a blast in the custome party. The party went on until 02:30 am and then we got back to the hotel for a well deserved rest.
Dia 14/10
All the faces were a little sad because we knew that soon we would be splitting up, but at the same time happy, because we were going to bring back a lot of good things from this congress, that will serve for us to work in a better way until the next meeting.
The activity in the morning of this day, was coments from the ASD for the State of São Paulo (GO, MT and MS) about the meeting, the way to act as a patern for all Bethels, with many questions being answered, and after the coments about the wrong procedures thet were created in Brasil about the Order, and that were passed as being laws of the Order. Brasil, unfortunately iinvent procedures that don’t exist because they are prettier ou in adapt procedures that don’t belong in our Order, like the anounce in the door of the temple, that is a procedure from Demolays and not International Order Of Job’s Daughters. It wasn’t possible to coment everything that I had to say, but a CD was given with the whole material. So that the Bethels can consult that. Also, Ludmila Murta gave material of her presentation to the Bethels.
Were present the following Bethels: 1 São José do Rio Preto, 2 Assis, 3 Ibitinga, 5 Olímpia, 6 Santos, 7 Santos, 9 Campinas, 10 Mogi das Cruzes, 12 Jaú, UD Tupã and UD São Paulo.
Seing Job’s Daughters of my state, dressed, after so long, was a vision that I wouldn’t know how to describe, I have no words to express what I felt looking at all the girls. I think that the most apropriate expression to describe what I felt would be: I think I’m having a vision of paradise, because I was extremally happy and touched.

Bethels have continued to send me a wonderful variety of photographs for the Bethel Photo Album in the Mick Memorial Room. Many of you have sent installation and initiation photos, as well as photographs taken at fun activities, fundraising events, Mother Mick Tributes, and on your travels to visit other Bethels. Each picture is special! And it is a joy to receive them and to add them to the album which is now on display at the Supreme Guardian Council office. If you aren’t sure whether I already have a photograph from your Bethel, send me an e-mail at mcmanust@earthlink.net and I’ll check my records. There is room for only one photograph from each Bethel.

If you
haven’t sent me a photograph of your Bethel, please do so.
Take your picture at an installation, fun activity or fundraising
event. Have several people
in the picture, and ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER, include their names
and offices, and what event the picture represents (e.g., an
installation, a special meal, or a trip to another Bethel).
Include your Bethel Number and city.
Make sure that it is a clear picture, no larger than 4x6 inches,
and PLEASE SEND ONLY ONE to the Curator, c/o Supreme Guardian Council,
233 West 6th Street, Papillion, NE
68046.
The album is
beginning to bulge a little because of the number of photographs, but
please keep them coming! Thank
you for participating in this project.

I am sure
that many of you have tried to find concise explanations of Freemasonry
suitable for our Daughters to refer to when they are answering questions
about Job’s Daughters and our Masonic relationship.
No doubt many of your jurisdictions have printed explanations of
“What is a Mason?” Perhaps you have even attempted to write
something yourself. Now, here comes Richard Vang with an informative,
easy-to-read, explanation of Freemasonry in book form for the whole
family to enjoy, discuss, and share with friends.
As
stated on the last page of the book, “My
Dad is a Freemason is designed to provide young readers with an
introduction to the fraternal organization known as Freemasonry.
The book describes one man’s Masonic career, told through the
words of his young son. The
text explains what a Freemason is, what a lodge meeting is like, and the
many activities that Freemasons participate in.
Included are rich photographs and images which illustrate the
history, symbolism and philosophy of Freemasonry.”
I
liked the extensive number of photographs, the concise explanations, and
the author’s style. And,
as an added touch of personalization, the book includes both a “This
book belongs to…” page and a “Personal Masonic History” or
genealogical research exercise. The
glossary, a listing of Masonic organization web sites, and pictures of
emblems for 14 organizations of the Masonic Family contribute to making
this book an excellent reference for readers – young and old!
The book is
listed at $16.95, but can be purchased for less through on-line sources.

Dad is a Freemason”, visit the publisher’s web site at www.squarecirclepress.com.
