This evening at 6:00 our Em was so tired and she went to another place. Where she has hair, and is running outside, and playing with her Walley-cat. She fought as hard as she could and it finally took its' toll on her body. She no longer has pain or infections or bumps. Thank you everyone for your support and prayers all these months we truly appreciate them. Em wanted her viewing to be on a Friday night and her funeral on a Saturday. Ashley Underwood, PASG, Webmaster Cuts Finger

This article is from the Missouri website from Dad Ashley....

Hey there.  There seems to be some rumors going around, and I have received several e-mails regarding my hand health.  Please let me set some of them straight.  No, I did nor cut my entire index finger off . . . no, I did not lose several fingers . . . no, I did not have a Star Wars type of bionic hand replacement.  What I did do was to cut the end of my left index finger off from about half way from the 1st knuckle to the nail.  The cut went right along the bone, so it was a fairly large hunk of my finger.  It was (and still is) very painful and quite a bit of blood was spilled.  My finger looked like the back end of a red Gremlin automobile.  Thanks to my daughter Kim and wife Mom Toni who got me and the end of my finger to the hospital.  The doctors reattached it, but they said it was about 50-50 whether or not it would take.  I have to hold my left hand upright to keep the pain down so I am basically typing with one hand (It has taken me about 15 minutes to type this note, so my speed is way down).  Still, compared to what some members of our Job's Daughter family have gone through, it is fairly insignificant.  Anyway, thanks to those who have e-mailed me, even if some of the stories weren't quite accurate ;)

Montana PHQ Running for Miss America

Christie Hageman, a Past Honored Queen of Bethel #3 in Billings, Montana, was chosen as Miss Montana in June of 2006, and will compete at the upcoming Miss American Pageant on January 29, 2007.  Miss Hageman, a 22 year old resident of Billings and a graduate student at the University of Texas pursuing her Master's Degree in Music, was chosen as Miss Montana 2006. The state pageant competition was held at the Dawson County High School Auditorium in Glendive. Christie sang "Route 66" during the Talent Competition and her Platform is "Preserving Music in Education."

Miss Hageman has performed many genres of music, including gospel-to-opera and country-to-Broadway on American and Italian stages. She has performed with the Rimrock Opera Company and has sung in numerous benefit concerts. Christie and her dynamic voice are often requested to sing the Star Spangled Banner at opening ceremonies for sporting events, conventions, and grand openings. At age 18, Christie was named the National High School Voice Winner from the Music Teachers National Association.  Miss Montana 2006 states, “Music is my passion, my career ambition, and a cause that I strongly feel must be advocated and preserved. My focus this year is entitled “Music Makes the Difference” regarding the importance of preserving music in the education system and the lifelong benefits that can be seen throughout the business world, social realm, and our cultural climate.”

In collaboration with national organizations such as Music for All, MENC (National Association for Music Education), Supportmusic.com, and American Music Conference, Miss Montana will champion her platform by traveling across Montana to visit with students and faculties in public and private schools and also with students in home-school settings. One element of the platform is the National Anthem Project created by MENC, which exemplifies how music education is linked to our social heritage and responsibility.  “Research proves the necessity for music in education and its wide-ranging effects, including the lowest lifetime and current use of all substances (alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs), better test scores, less difficulty in reading, social adaptability, enjoyment in school, and reduced stress levels. Music is not only for the talented or for those pursuing it as a career. Enjoyment and communications are key factors. Music can make a difference in everyone, no matter what path in life they choose."

Miss Hageman is proud to be a Past Honored Queen, and is excited for her info to be displayed on this website.  Good luck to her in the upcoming Miss America Pageant.  The Pageant will be broadcast on January 29, 2007 on the CMT Network at 8:00 EST.  Look in your local listings for the exact time in your area.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers from our Job's Daughters community.  Emily McCleary, member of Bethel #1 York has spent over 51 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hershey Medical Center being treated for Leukemia.

As of  yesterday, Emily was moved to a recovery room where she will have lots of physical therapy and much needed sleep.  She ate her first "real meal" in almost two months, and has an addiction to blue lollipops, gingerale and Slushies!

Emily has loved all of the well wishes from all of you - friends and new friends alike have posted messages on www.carepages.com (check this site out if you haven't had a chance - you will get to meet Emily and laugh and cry at her story), written letters and sent lots of pictures.  Em is just strong enough to scratch her nose and talk with a "talky box" - but she looks at all of your warm wishes every day.

If you are donating or plan to donate blood in the near future, please consider donating in Emily's name.   The Masonic Blood Donor Club has taken care of her needs, but blood is needed to replace what she has used.  We just learned this weekend that the average cost of 1 PINT of blood is over $1000 - and is only good for a few weeks.  To put it into perspective for you, Emily was using FOUR pints a day.  If you donate, drop me a note with your donation location and your name - I will forward to the appropriate contact so that your blood donation is credited to Emily.  She and all of the other needy kids at Hershey thank you.

So, you'd like to send a card or some pictures to Emily?  She can receive mail at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA  17033.  She is in room 3172.

Thanks to all of you who have contacted me with care and concern, those who have posted messages on her Care Pages, and those who have kept Em and her family in your prayers.  She has a long way to go - Chemo #2 is just around the corner.  Let's keep our Jobie love strong!

Pennsylvania Job's Daughter ill with Leukemia

Emily McCleary, Treasurer of Bethel #1 York, PA, fell ill following Pennsylvania's Grand Session. She is in Hershey Medical Center, being treated for Leukemia and having a very tough time with this horrible disease.

Emily's mom and dad have been driving back and forth to Hershey (45 min each way) sometimes twice a day to spend time with her. She is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and may be there for up to 7 more weeks.

Emily had been with our Bethel for 4 years - she was a Jobie to Bee and one of the first initiates after the age was lowered to 10. Yes, Emily is just 12 year old.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, donate blood if you can and encourage others to do so - (she uses 4 pints a day - and is blessed to be covered by the Masonic Blood Bank - but the blood must be there for her and anyone who needs it).

She has a web page: www.carepages.com and her page name is EmilyMcCleary. You can leave her and her parents a note - let's let her know the she is part of something truly special. It would especially nice if someone has been through this as a Daughter, parent or adult, could pass on their e-mail address to her parents, Jill and Gary, She is at one of the best care facilities in the world - Hershey Medical Center.

Thanks for your thought and prayers. I can be contacted at ARDAGHFARM@cs.com.
