Supreme Team Bios - 2009-2010
Supreme Guardian 2009-2010 My first
introduction to Job's Daughters was when we were invited to
an installation by a friend whose daughter was going in as
Junior Princess. My own daughter, Sonya, was only 10, so too
young to join the Order at that time. My husband, David, became Associate Bethel Guardian and not long after, I too was on the council. Sonya became Miss Qld Job's Daughter in 1998 and I was fortunate to accompany her to the Supreme Session in Michigan in 1999. I was in awe of everything at that Session and enjoyed every moment of it. We watched, delighted, as Vanessa Fowler was installed as Supreme Guide. I assumed the mantle of Bethel Guardian in 2001 and then stood and was elected Grand Marshal in 2002, going on to be Grand Guardian in 2005. I love the Order and how it develops young girls in so many important facets of life. Job's Daughters was relevant in the past, is now and will be well into the future. Associate Supreme Guardian 2009-2010 Howdy and a huge Wyoming welcome to our Supreme Bethel. I look forward to meeting with you. We all need to work together to help our beautiful order prosper. In the coming year if we work together we can make it happen. I was introduced to Job’s Daughters by my wife, Karen, who is a Past Honored Queen of Bethel #127 in Bakersfield, California and a Past Grand Guardian of Wyoming. I attended my first Job’s Daughters meeting in Great Falls, Montana after becoming a Master Mason in 1969. I did not get active until my oldest daughter, Patricia, was initiated in Bethel #42 in 1982 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Both my daughters are Past Honored Queens and Majority Members of their respective Bethels, Patricia, #42 and Liz, #33 and my son, Mark, is a Past Master Councilor of DeMolay. I have served as Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethels #33, 39, and 42 in Cheyenne as well as the Grand Bethel of Wyoming. I was elected Associated Grand Guardian of Wyoming in 1997. In 2003, I was appointed Supreme Treasurer by Shirley Bryngelson and elected Supreme Outer Guard in 2006. Remember, Job’s Daughters like angels have a hidden agenda....LOVE. Miss International Job's Daughter
2009-2010 I have been a member of Bethel #1 of Calgary, Alberta, Canada since 2005. I have always enjoyed volunteering, organizing events, and helping the community and Job’s Daughters seemed to suit me very well. Alberta is a fairly small but friendly jurisdiction and, over the years, I have made many friends. I like to say that it was the idea behind the organization that made me join, but it was the girls that made me stay. I am 19 years old and currently in the middle of a 4 year Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of Calgary. After I have obtained my degree in business, I hope to attend law school. I will be spending a lot of time studying! Probably my absolute favourite part of university is being able to take choir. I love to sing, especially in a big group because it takes everyone’s cooperation to make us sound amazing. I also love to sew and knit (Don’t make fun! It’s actually a great way to have a unique style). I am extremely excited for the year ahead and I look forward to traveling with Elaine, Dave and Arielle throughout the Job’s Daughters world!
Jobie
Love, Supreme Bethel Honored Queen
2009-2010 I joined Bethel #2 in Victoria, British Columbia, in October 2002 at age 11. Bethel #2 was on the verge of closing, but with solid support from some dedicated parents (most of them past Jobies) and a lot of hard work by the girls, my Bethel has flourished and now has about 20 members, including our Miss BC Job's Daughter, Sarah Taylor. I became HQ in June 2006, and returned to the floor as a PHQ to support the HQs that followed me. I believe the reason my Bethel has done so well is because we make sure we plan fun activities and invite friends and other Bethels to come along. Bethel #2 celebrated it's 75th birthday this year, and is the oldest existing Bethel in Canada. I am proud to be a 3rd generation Jobie, as my mom is a PHQ and PBG of Bethel #2, and my grandmother was a member of Bethel #1 and a charter member and PHQ of Bethel #15 (now closed). My great grandfather was a PAGG in BC. I was fortunate to attend Supreme 2006 in Vancouver and am truly happy I decided to attend Supreme 2009 in Virginia! I graduated from high school in June 2009 and was registered for college, with the idea of being a photo journalist or history teacher, but will now postpone my education for a year while I travel. I love photography, am a voracious reader, and work part time at a seniors' assisted living residence. My parents are Corinne Alexander and Rob Gordon, and I've got two younger brothers, Zach and Curtis. Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, which is on the west coast of Canada, and only a ferry ride away from Vancouver (where the 2010 Winter Olympics will be held) and Washington State. I love to travel, so am looking forward to lots of that, and meeting everyone along the way.
Jobie Love,
Supreme Marshal My name is RoseMarie Short and I am so proud to have been recently elected Supreme Marshal. I was born in Arlington, Kentucky on May 15, sometime in the last century. Arlington is a small town about 30 miles southeast of Paducah, Kentucky. Most of my relatives, with the exception of my immediate family live in Paducah and I visit them at least once a year. When I was a few years old, my family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where my two brothers were born. I attended school in St. Louis and in Weldon Springs. When I was in high school, my dad was transferred to Livermore, California. When we arrived in Livermore, we heard about an organization being formed for young ladies who were related to Masons and that organization was the International Order of Job’s Daughters. My dad, being a Missouri Mason, along with my mom decided this would be a good thing for me. It would help me meet young ladies my own age and a way for me to make new friends. So, I became a Charter Member of Bethel No. 232, Livermore, California. I was extremely proud to serve my Bethel as Honored Queen. My dad served as Associate Bethel Guardian and my mom as Guardian Treasurer. A couple of years after the completion of my education, I married the love of my life, Bill Short, who was a career Navy Man. We loved the Navy life, except for the deployments and the two tours he spent in Viet Nam as a language speaking advisor. The Navy afforded us the opportunity to travel and to live in different places, including a tour in Stuttgart, Germany, where I really caught the travel bug. I have had the opportunity to travel to 28 different countries. Bill and I have two children. Garneda Marie Short Skinnell, who is a Past Honored Queen of Bethel No. 232 and is a graduate of Cal-Poly State University, Ponoma. She also served as a Grand Bethel Officer, a Bethel Guardian, Grand Director of Music and a Deputy Grand Guardian. Garneda was recently transferred to Scottsdale, Arizona. She and her husband Ken, have 2 children, Ne’Chole and Justin. Justin is a Senior at Oregon State University and Ne’Chole is a Past Honored Queen of Bethel No. 1, Dublin, California and now lives in Virginia with her husband and little boy and is in Nursing School. Our son, Randy Short, is a Past Master Councilor of DeMolay twice. He is a graduate of California Baptist University and he and his wife, Michelle, have two children, a son Riley who is 5 and a daughter Morgan who is 2. They live in Juneau, Alaska, although they have hopes of moving back to California very soon. Randy is an Entered Apprentice. After Bill’s retirement from the Navy, we returned to Livermore, California and he went to work for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and where I became active again in Job’s Daughters. I served as Guardian Director of Music, Guardian Secretary, Bethel Guardian, Deputy Grand Guardian, Grand Chaplain in 1993-1994 and was then elected to the Grand Line, serving as Grand Guardian in 1997-1998. I was privileged to serve as Supreme Director of Music in 2007-2008. Bill became a Master Mason in Stuttgart, Germany and held dual membership in Germany and California. He served his lodge as Worshipful Master twice. He served as Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel Nos. 232 Livermore and 1, Dublin. He also served as Associate Grand Guardian of the State of California in 2002-2003. Unfortunately, I lost Bill in 2008 to Brain Cancer. I love to travel and Bill and I had the opportunity to do a lot of that, both while on Active Duty in the Navy and after his retirement. Other than my family and Job’s Daughters, my passion is music, especially Classical Music. I have had the privilege to sing in the Livermore Civic Course, the Stuttgart, Germany Philharmonic Chorus, the Veterans Affairs National Medical Group Choir and many church choirs, one of which I am still singing with. I also love dogs, especially Labs! I am terrified of anything with feathers, even when they aren’t attached to anything! Feathers are a real phobia for me. I hope this gives you a better idea of who I am. I am truly, truly honored to have been elected Supreme Marshal and to continue to work for this beautiful Order that has meant so much to me and made me part of who I am today. Supreme Outer Guard I’m Ron Johnson, your newly elected Supreme Outer Guard. Since I’ll be working on your behalf for the next four years, let me share a little bit about myself with you. I spent most of my youth in Manistique, Michigan, a small town in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. (This makes me a “Yooper”.) I have two brothers and a sister and we were, with our parents, very active in Masonic organizations. My sister is a PHQ of Bethel #69 of Manistique and my brothers and I were charter members of George A. Shaw Chapter, Order of DeMolay. I was installed as Master Councilor on August 24, 1963 and in March, 1963, I was designated a Representative DeMolay, later serving as a State Representative. I left Manistique to study at Western Michigan University. After two years at Western, I joined VISTA, Volunteers in Service to America, the domestic version of the Peace Corps. I was stationed in Chicago, Illinois where I worked with the Uptown Housing Commission and also with street alcoholics. When my service to VISTA was completed, I returned to the Kalamazoo area with my first wife and daughter Sue. I was raised a Master Mason of Fidelity Lodge #513 in Kalamazoo, Michigan on February 20, 1979. I participated in the life and work of Fidelity Lodge until a change in employment caused the family to relocate to Saginaw. Once arriving in Saginaw, I became a member of Salina Lodge # 155 where I was installed as Worshipful Master in December, 1984. In Saginaw, I once again discovered Job’s Daughters. My daughters Sue and Amy joined Bethel # 13, where Amy later served as Honored Queen. Since I believed firmly in being involved in the life of my children, I also became active with the Bethel. I was appointed Associate Bethel Guardian in 1982 and served in that capacity for three years. After serving as Grand Senior Custodian in 84-85, I was elected Grand Outer Guard and served as Associate Grand Guardian in 1988-89. After serving as Associate Grand Guardian, I served on the Jurisprudence, Appeals and Grievance, Leadership, and Grand Session Committees of Michigan’s Grand Guardian Council. I have also served as Associate Supreme Bethel Guardian and worked on two Supreme Sessions. I currently facilitate the Strategic Planning Committee of the Grand Guardian Council of Michigan as well as serving on the Strategic Planning Committee of the Grand Lodge of Michigan. In 1987, I married Jeannie Link, whom I had met while she served as Grand Guardian. We have been happily married for 22 years now and enjoy the many friends and experiences that Job’s Daughters has afforded us. Professionally, I work for an electronics manufacturer where I do everything from assembling the product, to silk-screening the panels for the cases, to packing and shipping the finished product. I am also the primary technical support staff. In my free time, I enjoy woodworking, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, reading and listening to classical music. I am also fascinated by technology and am referred to as the “techno guru” of the family. In closing, I still believe this statement which I made during my remarks as Associate Grand Guardian, “My friends, there is nothing complex or noble about me. I’m just your average guy who believes in our Masonic institutions. One who believes that the young shall always be our promise and our hope for tomorrow." |
